The Black Embassy is a planned community hub in Bangkok, built for the Black diaspora and open to everyone.

At its center is a staffed resource desk for the questions that make moving abroad hard: visas and immigration, housing, healthcare, money, schools, which agent to trust and which clinic to call.

Around it is a place people want to spend time in: a lounge, a library and quiet co-working room, a classroom that becomes an event space at night, an indoor pool, and an enclosed court.

Not Black-only. Black-directed.

Membership prioritizes the community the Embassy exists to serve. Everyone else comes as the guest of a member, or by contributing something real.

A modest budget becomes a real institution.

Bangkok already has a Black expat community, a bench of Black-owned businesses and meetups, and a cost of living that turns a modest budget into a real institution.

3–5×what a dollar does here, roughly, versus at home

  • A dollar goes further.

    Staff, space, and programs cost a fraction of what they do at home. That is the whole reason a community can afford an institution instead of a Facebook group.

  • The hard part is information.

    Visa rules shift. Online advice contradicts itself. The knowledge that actually helps, which agent, which clinic, which neighborhood, lives in people’s heads. A staffed desk changes that.

  • Nearly a decade on the ground.

    Founder MJ Johnson has lived and built in Thailand for close to ten years. The network the Embassy starts with is already real.

  • If Bangkok works, the model travels.

    The same design, localized, wherever the diaspora gathers.
